Alsodidae
Range: From northwestern Brazil to Bolivia, through Paraguay to Chile and Argentina. Genera: 3 Species: 30 Until recently, this group was treated as a subfamily of Cycloramphidae. In 2011 it was recognized as an independent family based on DNA sequence analysis and molecular data. Ecology and behavior: Representatives occur in diverse habitats - wetlands, rocky banks, humid forests, and near high-mountain water bodies - and are often tolerant of environmental change. Males vocalize; tadpoles are free-living. The ecology of most species is still poorly studied due to the rarity of records and requires further research.
