Telmatobiidae

2 genera 62 species Found in the Andes — the mountain system of South America, 4000–5000 m above sea level. Which is why they earned the name Andean whistling frogs.

Morphologically similar to the family Ceratophryidae (horned frogs), they were classified as a separate family based on genetic differences. They lead an aquatic lifestyle, can withstand significant temperature drops, and feed on aquatic invertebrates.
