March 8. Winter Is Over

Snow still lies on the ground, but the sun is melting through it. Above dark objects hidden in the snow (twigs, for example), small windows form from fused ice droplets. Rooks are preparing to migrate to Russia, where they will be perceived as a sign of spring, and are gathering in large flocks. There are few of them left in the city; they cluster on the outskirts, where mountains of dirty snow hauled away by snowplows during winter are melting.
