A Request for Help and an Offer of Access to a Library of Biological and Other Literature

The site's author has assembled a fairly large library of electronic biological literature, including many foreign sources, among them — the very latest. Unfortunately, the flood of new books remains unsorted. I invite anyone who wishes to obtain what they need for academic and scientific ...

When planning this website, I, its author (D.Sh.), intended to host my existing library of biological and related electronic literature on it. For various reasons, this was never done. Probably, I won't do it anymore – if only because now it might interfere with the website fulfilling its other functions. I tried using various programs to organize libraries. Alas, I haven't found an option whose benefits outweigh the convenience of the simplest option: a set of files with descriptive names organized into thematic folders. When compiling the electronic library, I wasn't thinking about copyright laws, but about more important things for me. I am convinced that the distribution of electronic versions of books used for education and scientific work is not a reprehensible act. I am willing to provide access to the library to anyone who needs it for study or work not related to profit. If you wish, come to me with a device that can read a 128 GB SD card (which is exactly how much space the library occupies) and copy whatever you want yourself, or write to me at d.a.shabanov_gmail.com with a specific request, and I will try to send what you ask for. However, I have a counter-request. Help me bring the library up to par! In its systematized part, there are currently about 8,000 sources. At least 4,000 more are unprocessed, with unclear names. Each needs to be opened, understood what's inside, and named according to strictly defined rules. I don't have time to do this, especially since organizing the library requires many other actions. If you can – help! I envision it like this. You write to me at the address above and send either electronic sources that would be appropriate for this library, or inform me of your readiness to help with renaming. In the latter case, I will send you a hundred (I can send two hundred...) files, which you will rename according to the rules adopted in this library. You rename them and send them back to me. Over time, I will post an updated list of files that takes into account new additions. It remains to bring the list of sources in the systematized part of the library up to date. Please do not attach too much importance to which folder certain files are in; naturally, this is a rather arbitrary decision. Even with this approach, searching by first author surnames and keywords in titles is possible. Look: there's a lot of interesting stuff here. Contents of the electronic library Naming rules for electronic books for the electronic library General structure of the name: Author_Year_Title. The file is named in the language in which the book or article is written. Author initials, file data, and everything else are not needed (it complicates searching for the book). In case of two authors, both surnames are indicated; in case of three – the first and "et al.", like: Ivanov_et al., Ivaniv_ta, Ivanov_ea. If the book title is complex, it can be simplified. Colons are not supported in titles. If titles consist of parts, they can be separated by underscores: Author_Year_Part One_Part Two. Collections edited by someone are signed with an indication that the surnames belong to the editors: Ivanov_(ed), Ivaniv_ta_(ed), Ivanov_(ed). Dictionaries, collections in series, and similar books can be signed by indicating the name of the publisher or series. Title_year Examples of correctly renamed files: Encyclopedia_2005_Animal Science.djvu Magills Encyclopedia of Science Animal Life_2002.djvu McDiarmid_Altig_(ed)_1999_Tadpoles.djvu Litvynchuk_Borkin_2009_Grebentchatye tritony.djvu Jamieson_(ed)_2003_Reproductive Biology&Phylogeny of Anura.pdf DK_1993_Amphibian_Eyewitness Guides.djvu Nekrasova_Morozov-Leonov_2001_Diagnostika lyagushok kompleksa Rana esculenta Pridneprovya.pdf Practical advice. A convenient renaming mode is as follows. You open the file to be renamed in the main window, and the notepad window on top of it. You can type the name there, looking at the original, and transfer parts of the copied title from the source itself into the buffer.
