Appendix IV. Recommended Literature Attention! The text is outdated! The current text is located here. Main textbooks: In general, the authors of this textbook strive to provide the most comprehensive support for the course being taught. The text of the textbook "Ecology: Biology of Interaction", which is being corrected, is located here. Its previous edition (under a different title), which can be downloaded in the form it was published in 2009, is located here. Odum Yu. Ecology: in 2 vols. — M.: Mir, 1986. — 328 pp.; 376 pp. (The main textbook that largely determined the scope and interpretation of ecology as a biological science, sometimes called "Odum's ecology"). Odum Yu. Fundamentals of Ecology. — M.: Mir, 1975. — 740 pp. (Previous edition of the same textbook; contains some useful material not included in the next version). Begon M., Harper J., Townsend C. Ecology. Individuals, Populations, and Communities: in 2 vols. — M.: Mir, 1989. — 677 pp.; 477 pp. (The most comprehensive compilation on ecology published in Ukrainian and Russian; the only book that allows looking at many problems from different points of view. The latest edition of this textbook is available only in English: Begon M., Townsend C.R., Harper J.L. Ecology. From individuals to ecosystems. — Malden — Oxford — Victoria, Blackwell Publishing, 2006. — 738 p.). The difference between environmental science and ecology is easily understood using these two excellent international textbooks: Miller G. T., Spoolman S. E. Environmental Science. Problems, Concepts, and Solutions. — Thomson Learning, Inc. 2008. — 560 p. Miller G. T., Spoolman S. E. Essentials of Ecology. — Thomson Learning, Inc. 2009. — 382 p. Shilov I.A. Ecology. — M.: Vysshaya Shkola, 1998. — 512 pp. (MSU textbook that has had several reprints; contains a very significant amount of material on physiological ecology and does not include several sections of the course discussed here). Kucheriavyi V.P. Ecology. — Lviv: Svit, 2000. — 500 pp. (A detailed compilation in Ukrainian that can serve as a valuable source of useful material). Radkevich V.A. Ecology. — Minsk: Vysshaya Shkola, 1998. — 159 pp. (A relatively small and very good Belarusian textbook). Mirkin B.M., Naumova L.G. Fundamentals of General Ecology: Textbook. — M.: Universitetskaya Kniga, 2005. — 240 pp. (A small, very clearly and logically written book that provides a holistic understanding of ecology). Britannica Illustrated Science Library: Ecology. — Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc, 2010. — 102 pp. Source of bright and clear diagrams, visually demonstrating the content of modern ecology. Textbooks on individual course sections: Troyan P. Ecological Bioclimatology. — M.: Vysshaya Shkola, 1988. — 207 pp. (An excellent Polish textbook on autecology; other editions exist). Pianka E. Evolutionary Ecology. — M.: Mir, 1981. — 400 pp. (A very clear textbook covering the central part of the course. Well-written, understandable, and interesting). Gilyarov O.M. Population Ecology. — M.: MSU Publishing House, 1990. — 191 pp. (A small textbook covering all the main sections of population ecology. An excellent resource for getting into the subject). Whittaker R. Communities and Ecosystems. — M.: Progress, 1980. — 327 pp. (A concise and informative overview written by one of the pioneers of ecology). Ricklefs R. Fundamentals of General Ecology. — M.: Mir, 1979. — 424 pp. (A useful, accessibly written book). Daajo R. Fundamentals of Ecology. — M.: Progress, 1975. — 415 pp. (A French textbook reflecting a somewhat different tradition of teaching ecology than the Anglo-American one. Although this book is somewhat outdated, it can still be very useful).
