Leiosauridae Range: certain regions of South America and southern North America, also found on Caribbean islands. The family includes 2 subfamilies, 6 genera, 32 species. Leiosaurids are inhabitants of arid areas; like geckos, they have very adhesive feet with a special toe pad structure that allows them to cling to vertical surfaces. They also have a characteristic dorsal pattern resembling a shark tooth in shape, and a relatively smooth, short tail.
Males of this family are highly territorial.
