Range: Distributed in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea.
Genera – 21 Species – 131 Body length from 20 to 110 mm. Well adapted to living in hot, arid environments. To avoid desiccation under the scorching sun, they spend most of their lives in underground burrows, entering aestivation during the dry season. Frogs appear on the surface only after heavy rains, to lay eggs in a short period. They typically settle near ant or termite mounds and feed on these insects.
