On Crowdsourcing
On January 24, a seminar devoted to crowdsourcing was held at the Faculty of Biology. Crowdsourcing is the outsourcing of certain tasks to a broad circle of people, where anyone willing may offer their own solution. The seminar was delivered by Viktoriia Pavlivna Komarystaia. For companies that need to solve particular problems, crowdsourcing is a way to reduce costs and accelerate development. For researchers and other specialists, crowdsourcing is a means of finding income and assessing the market for scientific developments. With Viktoriia Pavlivna's kind permission, I am posting here the slides from her presentation. To begin with, a few words from me. Of course, to achieve anything by means of such a mechanism, one has to make an effort. But water does not flow under a stationary stone. The present situation in science is such that without sustained effort it will be impossible to remain in it. Naturally, anyone evaluating the tasks posted on innocentive.com will feel some apprehension. We live in a country that lags significantly behind the developed world. This lag is connected both with the material base and, often, with linguistic and mental barriers. I was interested to learn that the top three places in the efficiency of solving tasks from the database discussed in the presentation belong to citizens of Russia. The language barrier can be overcome - the company even accepts texts translated with Google Translator. One cannot expect a condescending attitude toward us: the post-Soviet space is considered an interesting area for crowdsourcing, and customers are not at all interested in the participants' work experience or various credentials. Even if you solve some task and your solution is not purchased, you do not end up empty-handed: you still retain a solution to one of the tasks demanded by the contemporary market. Dear students, for you crowdsourcing may become a chance to enter the global market. The logic is as follows. You go to the website and see a list of tasks described very briefly. You register, providing, among other things, your home address. You gain access to a detailed description of the task. Tasks come in different types (described in the presentation). You solve it. You submit it. After some time you receive either acceptance and payment or a polite refusal. Some types of tasks provide for the possibility of agreeing upon the proposed solution. It is worth trying! Next comes V. P. Komarystaia's presentation. Many thanks to her![IMG_1][IMG_2][IMG_3][IMG_4][IMG_5][IMG_6][IMG_7][IMG_8][IMG_9][IMG_10][IMG_11][IMG_12][IMG_13][IMG_14][IMG_15][IMG_16][IMG_17][IMG_18][IMG_19][IMG_20][IMG_21][IMG_22][IMG_23][IMG_24][IMG_25][IMG_26][IMG_27][IMG_28][IMG_29][IMG_30][IMG_31][IMG_32][IMG_33][IMG_34][IMG_35]
