VII International Conference of Young Scientists "Biology: From Molecule to Biosphere"

November 20 – 23, 2012 Dear colleagues! We invite you to participate in the VII International Conference of Young Scientists "Biology: From Molecule to Biosphere", which will be held in Kharkiv from November 20 to 23, 2012. Conference organizers: Faculty of Biology and Student Scientific Society of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Students, postgraduate students, and young scientists (under 35 years of age) conducting research in the fields of biology, biomedicine, and ecology are invited to participate in the conference. The conference format is in-person. Participants can choose one of two forms of presentation: oral or poster presentation. The working languages of the conference are Ukrainian, Russian, and English. The conference work is planned in the following areas: • Biochemistry • Biophysics • Molecular and Cell Biology • Bioinformatics • Human and Animal Physiology • Biomedicine • Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology • Biotechnology • Genetics and Breeding • Plant Physiology and Biochemistry • Botany • Zoology • Mycology and Phytopathology • Ecology A collection of abstracts of the participants' reports will be published before the conference, and its materials will be posted on the website of the Faculty of Biology of KhNU and on the website of the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Biology after the conference. To participate in the conference, please send an application and an electronic version of the abstracts to the conference email address molecule_biosphere@ukr.net by September 30, 2012 (as attached files in one email). Use the attached files zayavka_ukr or zayavka_rus for the application form. Please note that applications must be filled out strictly according to this template, using Times New Roman font, 12 pt font size. Applications filled out in a different format, or applications sent without abstracts, will not be considered. The file with the application(s) containing information about all authors of the abstracts should be sent by the speaker. The name of the file with the application(s) must correspond to the speaker's surname in Latin letters, with the surname appearing at the beginning of the filename. Example filename: bondareva_zayavka. The file must be saved in RTF format. Please also indicate the speaker's surname and the section to which the abstracts are submitted in the subject line of the email, for example: Bondareva, Zoology. The printed copy of the abstracts, signed by all authors and the supervisor, and the printed copy of the participation application must be sent to the organizing committee's postal address by September 30, 2012. Participants who cannot send electronic abstracts and applications via email can submit them on a CD by September 30, 2012. ATTENTION! Materials are considered received if the organizing committee has sent a confirmation of receipt of the electronic versions of the abstracts and applications to your email address. If you do not receive a confirmation, please resend the materials within one week of the initial submission. Abstracts submitted after September 30, 2012, will not be included in the collection. Printed abstracts without the author(s)' signatures will not be considered.
Rules for Preparing Abstracts The abstracts, up to one page in length, must be typed in Microsoft Word in Ukrainian, Russian, or English. The filename must correspond to the speaker's surname (in-person participant) in Latin letters. Example filename: bondareva_tezy. The file must be in RTF format. Page size is A4, all margins are 2 cm, font is Times New Roman, font size is 12 pt, single spacing, special characters from the Symbol font. Abstracts should be formatted as follows: 1) Title of the abstract (all caps, bold, centered) 2) Surname, first name, patronymic of the author(s) of the abstract (bold, centered) 3) Information about the scientific organization(s) represented by the author(s); indicate the name of the organization, department or research unit, full address of the organization, e-mail of the author(s). This information should be presented without paragraph indents, aligned to the left. 4) Text of the abstract. Text alignment is justified, first line indent is 1 cm. The text of the abstract should be submitted without hyphenation, tables, figures, or graphs, without bold text, and without text highlighting. Latin species names should be italicized. 5) References. A bibliography at the end of the abstract is NOT included. References to literature sources necessary for understanding the abstract should be provided in the text of the abstract in parentheses (Author, year of publication). 6) Abstracts written in Russian or Ukrainian must include a summary in English (summary) of no more than 10 lines. IMPORTANT! The age of each co-author must not exceed 35 years.

In our investigation the attempt was made to modify the method of quantitative estimation of sulfated glycosaminoglycans (sGAG) of cartilaginous tissue to use it on cell cultures. Abstracts must contain information on the authors’ own research or developments, be proof‑read, and free of orthographic, punctuation and stylistic errors. Materials that do not meet these requirements or the conference theme will be rejected. In case of rejection, the organizational fee will be returned with deduction of postal costs. Please note that ecology is a biological science of interactions; its objects are ecosystems, communities, populations, organisms, not the environment per se and its pollution. The organizing committee reserves the right to select materials, after which notifications of inclusion in the printed program will be sent. The committee also reserves the right to reassign talks to sections that will be formed during conference preparation. Participants must pay an organizational fee. Payment details will be sent in the registration confirmation email within a week of submitting the application and abstract. The fee is: for participants from Ukraine – 100 UAH for students, 150 UAH for graduate students and young scientists; for participants from other countries – 25 EUR. The fee covers publication of the abstract, a conference material folder, a participant certificate, coffee breaks, and excursion participation. Travel, accommodation and meals are covered by the sending organization or by the participants themselves. In the second informational letter the committee will provide information on possible lodging, but booking must be done independently. After the committee sends the invoice for conference participation, a scanned copy of the payment receipt, with the payer’s full name, must be emailed to the committee’s address. Important conference dates 30.09.2012 – last day for participant registration and abstract submission; 20.11.2012 – start of the conference; 23.11.2012 – end of the conference.
