Family Petropedetidae Genera - 1; Species - 12. Distribution: Central and southern India, southern Africa. Tailless amphibians leading a semi-aquatic lifestyle; they are characterized by nocturnal activity. Members of the family often have dark coloration. Males of most species have developed femoral glands that secrete a substance attracting females, and have spines on the chin and throat.
