Phrynobatrachidae

Family Phrynobatrachidae Genera – 1; Species – 85. Distribution: Africa, south of the Sahara. Mostly small frogs (averaging 2.5–5 cm), many representatives of the family are polymorphic in coloration (brown, gray, greenish, black, and dark brown tones predominate). They can be very numerous in some areas. They occupy a wide variety of habitats – from savannas to humid forests. Most active in the morning and at dusk. They feed on small invertebrates and larvae. Representatives of this family show sexual dimorphism: females are somewhat larger than males. The head is small, eyes have horizontal pupils. There are no webbing on the limbs.
