Feeds on insects, tadpoles, and aquatic invertebrates. Morphological features: Body length up to 40 cm. Belly is bright orange-red. Powerful limbs and tail. Snout slightly blunted, eyes not protruding, "wing-like brow ridges".
Small spines run along the back.
