VIII INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF YOUNG SCIENTISTS "BIOLOGY: FROM MOLECULE TO BIOSPHERE" Kharkiv, Ukraine December 3 – 6, 2013
Dear colleagues! We invite you to take part in the VIII International Conference of Young Scientists "Biology: From Molecule to Biosphere", which will be held in Kharkiv from December 3 to 6, 2013. Organizers of the conference: the Faculty of Biology and the Student Scientific Society of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Students, postgraduate students, and young scientists (under 35 years of age) conducting research in the fields of biology, biomedicine, and ecology are invited to participate in the conference. The form of participation in the conference is in-person. Participants can choose one of two forms of presenting their materials: 1) oral presentation, 2) poster presentation. The working languages of the conference are Ukrainian, Russian, and English. The conference work is planned in the following areas: Biochemistry Biophysics Molecular and Cellular Biology Bioinformatics Genetics and Breeding Human and Animal Physiology Biomedicine Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology Biotechnology Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Botany Zoology Mycology and Phytopathology Ecology
To participate in the conference, please send your application and an electronic version of your abstract (as attached files in a single email) to the conference email address molecule_biosphere@ukr.net by October 28, 2013. Please use the attached files zayavka_ukr or zayavka_rus to complete your application. Please note that applications must be completed only using this template. Applications completed in any other format and applications sent without abstracts will not be considered. The file with the application(s) containing information about all authors of the abstract should be sent by the presenter. The name of the application file must correspond to the presenter's surname in Latin letters, with the surname at the beginning of the file name. Example of file name: meleshko_zayavka. The file must be saved in RTF format. The subject line of the email must include the presenter's surname and the section to which the abstract is submitted, for example: Meleshko, zoology. The following items must be sent to the postal address of the organizing committee by October 28, 2013: • a printed copy of the abstract,signed by all authors and the scientific supervisor • a printed copy of the application for participation •a receipt for payment of the registration fee with the payer's full name ATTENTION! If the section name is missing from the email subject line, abstracts may not be considered. Materials are considered received if the organizing committee has sent confirmation of receipt of the electronic versions of abstracts and applications to your email address. If you do not receive confirmation, please resend the materials within one week from the date of the first submission.

In the absence of confirmation, please resend the materials within a week of the first submission. Abstracts submitted after the specified deadlines will not be included in the collection. Printed abstracts without the author(s)' signature(s) will not be considered.
Rules for formatting abstracts The text of the abstracts, up to one page long, must be typed in Microsoft Word in Ukrainian, Russian, or English. The filename must correspond to the presenter's surname in Latin letters. Example filename: meleshko_tezy. The file must be in rtf format. Page format: A4, all margins – 2 cm, font Times New Roman, font size 12 pt, single spacing, special characters from the Symbol font. Abstracts should be formatted as follows: 1) Title of the abstract (all caps, bold, centered) 2) Surname, name, patronymic of the author(s) of the abstract (bold, centered) 3) Information about the scientific organization(s) represented by the author(s) of the abstract; indicate the name of the organization, department or research unit, full address of the organization, e-mail of the author(s). This information should be presented without line breaks, aligned to the left. 4) Text of the abstract. Text alignment – justified, first line indent – 1 cm. The text of the abstract should be presented without hyphenation, without bold text, without text highlighting. Latin species names should be italicized. 5) Literature references. A list of literature at the end of the abstract is NOT included. References necessary for understanding the abstract should be provided in the text of the abstract in parentheses (Author, year of publication). 6) Abstracts written in Russian or Ukrainian must include a summary in English (summary) of no more than 10 lines, placed after the main text. 7) Usually, after the main text and summary, a thank you to the scientific supervisor is placed, or information about the scientific supervisor is provided (full name of the supervisor, their academic degree, title).
IMPORTANT! The age of each co-author must not exceed 35 years. The scientific supervisor is not listed as a co-author of the abstracts.

Poster Layout The poster size should be A1 format (59.4 x 84 cm). Each poster must include the title, author's full name(s), and authors' affiliations (including e-mail). This information should be placed at the top of the poster, similar to the header of the abstracts (the title should be prominent and easily readable). Materials for fixing the posters will be provided by the organizing committee.
ATTENTION! The abstracts must contain information about the author(s)' own research or developments, be proofread, and contain no spelling, punctuation, stylistic, or semantic errors. The inclusion of graphs, tables, and figures is permitted only if absolutely necessary, provided that their presence significantly simplifies the presentation of the abstract's content.
We draw your attention to the fact that ecology is a biological science about interactions; its objects are ecosystems, groupings, populations, and organisms, not the environment as such and its pollution.
The organizing committee reserves the right to select materials, based on the results of which notifications will be sent about the inclusion of abstracts for publication and reports in the conference program. The organizing committee reserves the right to reassign reports to sections, which will be formed during the preparation for the conference.
Materials that do not meet the specified requirements or the conference theme will be rejected. In case of rejection of the abstracts, the organizational fee will be refunded minus the costs of postal transfer.
To participate in the conference, a registration fee must be sent by October 28. The fee is: for participants from Ukraine: 120 UAH for students, 150 UAH for postgraduate students and young scientists; for participants from other countries: 25 EUR. If an application is submitted after October 28, the participation fee changes to 150 UAH for students and 180 UAH for postgraduate students and young scientists from Ukraine, and 30 EUR for participants from other countries. In this case, the final deadline for abstract submission is November 10.
The participant's organizational fee includes payment for: publication of abstracts, conference materials folder, participant certificate, coffee breaks, participation in excursions, and the work of the organizing committee. If a participant is unable to attend the conference, the conference materials will be mailed to the correspondence address within 3-4 weeks after the conference ends.

Based on the experience of previous years, it is more convenient for participants from Russia and other countries to use the "Contact" system for sending money transfers, as the commission for such a transfer is significantly lower than for a regular bank transfer. In this case, the transfer is sent to the name Meleshko Olena Viacheslavivna. Information about branches and tariffs can be found on the system's website https://www.contact-sys.com/.
Travel, accommodation, and meals are paid for by the sending organization or by the participants themselves. The organizing committee will provide information on possible accommodation in the second information letter.
A friendly meeting of participants will be held regarding the opening of the conference. The fee for participation in the friendly meeting must be paid by November 10, 2013. The cost is 120 UAH (12 EUR).
Copies of receipts for payment of the organizational fee and the fee for participation in the friendly meeting must be sent to the postal address of the organizing committee, with the full name of the payers necessarily indicated. The original receipts must be presented during registration.
ATTENTION! Theses will be published only upon timely payment of the organizational fee. Payment of bank transaction fees is not included in the fee amount and is paid by the payer. Receipts are considered received if the organizing committee has sent confirmation of their receipt to your email address. If confirmation is not received, please send the receipts again.
