I offer to anyone interested a "new" Word document (.docx) with a set of paragraph styles that are, in my view, optimal for writing dissertations and theses in accordance with the official Ukrainian requirements. With thoughtful use of the "Format Painter" tool, this 🔒 template (Sign in to download) (you can download it via the link above; if your security system does not allow .docx, here is 🔒 this file (Sign in to download) in an archive) will greatly simplify work on dissertations, term papers and theses.

This document contains a template with styles selected for writing dissertations and theses. To make a dissertation, you need to delete the first page with explanations and the page with the abstract, and then begin assembling the text using the available styles as models. For a thesis or term paper you will additionally have to delete, besides the first page, the introduction structure. In addition, a title page for the thesis/term paper is needed, which is not included in the template (the requirements for them are frequently changed).

One of the main conveniences of this template is that the numbering of chapters, sections, figures and tables happens automatically.

While working, I recommend opening the navigation pane with links to the headings inside the document ("View" — "Navigation Pane").

To work with the template you will have to make wide use of the Microsoft Word command "Format Painter".

The style «С1_ДиссерГлава», used for chapter headings, is a numbered list in which paragraphs begin with "Глава…" ("Chapter…"). If the work is written in Ukrainian, you need to enter this style ("Home" — "Styles"), select it, choose "Modify Style", and replace "Глава…" with "Розділ…". The chapter title begins with a line break (Shift+Enter) that has the corresponding style. Then the word "Глава…" will be on a separate line.

Sections have the style «С2_ДиссерПункт». Introduction headings, conclusions and other first-level structural elements that are not numbered use «С3_ДиссерВведЗак».

Depending on the chapter number, the numbering of sections, figures and tables is rebuilt. The figure itself (the line into which the picture is inserted) and the table heading have the style «С5_ДЗагТб_Рис». The figure caption is «С7_ДиссПодпРис». The table number (before the heading) is Shift+Enter on the style «С4_ДиссерТаблица».

To update the table of contents, simply right-click on it and choose the "Update Field" option from the context menu (usually it then makes sense to choose "update entire table"). The table of contents shows those paragraphs for which level 1 or 2 is specified ("Home" — "Paragraph" — "Indents and Spacing" — "General" — "Outline level"); the navigation pane also shows lower-level headings.

General advice: treat the choice of styles and the formatting of the text with maximum attention. Oddly enough, this makes it easier to succeed in building the main meaning of the work. Preserve the paragraph styles used in this template, and carry them over to your own paragraphs!
