Zoology-2011. To Second-Year Students About the Second Module
Dear sophomores! Due to a severe time crunch, I had to post the presentations on the diversity of ray-finned fish without text. Nevertheless, starting this coming Wednesday (and continuing until next Wednesday), you will be writing and submitting the fish module, and in this module you will need to understand fish diversity (identifying representatives of the main orders of ray-finned and lobe-finned fish, and even some suborders of perch-like fish). You don’t need to memorize the taxonomy down to the order level; you need to understand it (who goes where, and how they differ from one another). I’ll help however I can (by posting materials), and if I can’t, I hope you’ll do just as well as your predecessors! This site contains only materials from my lectures, which by no means cover everything you need to understand and remember for your practical classes. In addition to the main textbooks, the two volumes of the Grzhimek Encyclopedia (my presentation is based mainly on them: /node/136 and /node/137), as well as Nelson’s summary ( /node/131). Get ready, and don’t forget not only to take the tests but also to submit your assignments to your instructors!
