Vertebrate Zoology-2016. Test on Topic II of the Course

Results of testing on Topic II of the course

Dear second-year students, I can finally share the results of the fish testing. I hope to present the overall picture soon (taking into account the grades you received when submitting topics to your instructors). First of all, a few words about how I decided to assign grades for the testing. During the testing, your results are obtained, expressed as a percentage of correct answers. I need to convert this into points. In the ecology course in 2015, I took the best result as 100% of the maximum grade, and for the worst answer that, in my opinion, deserved a "satisfactory" grade (i.e., the weakest "three"), I gave 50% of the maximum number of points. As experience has shown, this is not the best option: only one person received the maximum grade, and everyone else, even those who were slightly behind, lost points. In the introductory lecture, I said that I would choose the "worst" three, the "worst" five, and the best result. I calculated as planned... but it seemed inconvenient, so I decided to calculate it a bit differently. I will explain first with an example. Below is the distribution of results, from worst to best, and the corresponding grading method. The maximum grade of 4 points is used as an example. Look: the range of results from 0% to 49% is divided into the number of sub-ranges corresponding to half of the maximum grade (the first is zero points, the last is one less than half of the maximum grade). The range from 50% to 100% is divided into the number of sub-ranges one greater than half of the maximum grade (the first is half the maximum score, the last is the maximum score). If the maximum score is four, the first half of the scale is divided into two parts, and the second half into three. For the second test in the vertebrate zoology course, as stated in the rules of this course, 8 points are given, for the third and fourth – 10 points each. The previous distribution was artificial, uniform. And below is the actual distribution of grades you received for the test. Above the scatter plot is a histogram describing the distribution of your work by the number of correct answers, to the right is a histogram showing the distribution of obtained grades. I considered works with more than a third of correct answers to be satisfactory. And now – the results of each student separately. Before presenting them, I want to apologize if I misspelled someone's name or group. Many of you, when filling out the "name" field on the answer sheet, provided an initial instead of a name; I know the names of some of you from the instructors who conduct practical classes. It is likely that not all of those enrolled in the course (but who did not take the test) are listed in my list. Finally, groups are not indicated for all students. Please, if you see an error in the list, do not be offended by it, but let me know what needs to be corrected (for example, in the comments on this page).

Don't worry if you got less than you wanted. If you try hard, you can retake it. It's worst for those who didn't take the test... Let's keep working!
