Ecology-2011 (I). Results for the Ecology Course

Results of the test on module IV, as well as the overall calculation of points earned by students. I emphasize that the grade for any module can be improved at the pass/fail assessment.

Dear third-year students, I apologize for taking so long to summarize the results—a business trip and some confusion got in the way. I can finally present you with the final assessment for the ecology course. First of all, here is an overview of Module IV. It could have been better. Two students did not receive a passing grade; Lyubov Shulyka scored by far the highest. Based on this data, I can issue a passing grade. I want to emphasize that this is fully in accordance with the documents that define the rules for issuing passing grades. According to the "Regulations on the Organization of the Educational Process at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University" (Section 5.2.5.), "a semester-based differentiated credit is a form of final assessment consisting of evaluating a student’s mastery of the course material in a specific discipline based on their completion of certain types of work in practical, seminar, or laboratory sessions and the completion of individual assignments. The semester-based differentiated assessment is scheduled in the absence of an exam and does not require mandatory student attendance." Therefore, I conducted the assessment without the students’ presence based on the results of their work throughout the semester. Grades were assigned as follows. Each module is "worth" 23 points (A - 23, B - 20, C - 17, D - 14, E - 11, FX - 5). An additional 8 points are awarded for attending seminars. Note that the system I used “forgives” minor shortcomings. Suppose a student received the following grades for the modules: B, B, A, B, and attended 88% of the seminars (equivalent to 7 points for attendance). His total score is 20+20+23+20+7=90, and he receives a grade of A. In my opinion, this is fair; in any case, this hypothetical student truly worked hard throughout the entire semester. I emphasize that this result can be improved by any student (except perhaps Belkina, Tyguntsova, and Shulika, who have nowhere left to improve). The procedure is as follows: the student comes to take the exam, specifies which modules they are taking or retaking (the existing score for these modules is canceled), draws a ticket, and answers questions on the selected modules.
